Bladder Dysfunction

May present as:
  1. Stress incontinence – Involuntary loss of urine on effort or physical exertion, or on sneezing or coughing (Haylen et al 2010)
  2. Urgency – A compelling need to urinate and difficulty deferring (ICS 2018)
  3. Urge incontinence – Involuntary loss of urine following a sudden and compelling need to urinate
  4. Urinary retention – Inability to pass urine despite persistent effort

These issues can happen to anyone and for a number of reasons, most commonly due to changes related to childbirth but can also occur to women in their 20s or around peri-menopause.

In most cases, these issues are very treatable and It is important to address symptoms early to avoid complications.
